Scott Smith of the Buccaneers’ official website writes that rookie tight end Cade Otton is the “best answer” to replace Rob Gronkowski in Tampa Bay.
Fantasy Impact: Gronkowski retired this past week, leaving the Bucs with Otton, fellow rookie Ko Kieft, and veteran Cameron Brate at the tight end position. Although Brate has the most experience among the bunch, he has struggled to produce in the pass-heavy offense, catching just 30 passes for 245 yards and four scores. His best campaign came in 2016 when he totaled 57 catches, 660 yards, and eight touchdowns, finishing as the TE8 in PPR. Otton, who is recovering from ankle surgery, brings youth and a fresh, new face to the offense. Furthermore, there is the “potential for him to be the tight end the Bucs keep on the field most,” as Smith notes. This positional battle will be pivotal to watch in training camp. Depending on how things play out, Otton could carry low-end TE2 upside.
