Franchise-tagged tight end Mike Gesicki and the Dolphins are not expected to reach an agreement on a contract extension before the Friday, July 15 deadline.
Fantasy Impact: The fifth-year tight end enters the year as TE11 according to FantasyPros average draft position, and this news should have no impact on that. Gesicki is coming off a season where he finished third in targets, fifth in receptions, and eighth in yards among all tight ends. The offseason additions of Tyreek Hill, Cedrick Wilson, and pass-catching running back Chase Edmonds might hurt Gesicki’s volume, but could help in terms of touchdown production. The new and improved Miami offense is bound to get more red zone opportunities in 2022 after finishing last season 25th in the category, and an athletic, 6’6″ tight end makes for an easy target in those situations.
