Lamar Jackson announced on Twitter this morning that he requested a trade from the Ravens on March 2 because he and the team are at an impasse in contract negotiations.
Fantasy Impact: Jackson has been openly upset about his contract situation since at least last season, and the Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on the veteran QB ahead of the deadline as the two sides remained far apart on a new deal. The non-exclusive tag means the Ravens and Jackson can still negotiate a long-term deal, but Jackson is also free to talk to all of the other NFL teams. If Jackson signs with another team, the Ravens can match any offer or choose to accept two first-round picks as trade compensation. Jackson, who has been negotiating without the help of an agent, apparently is hoping to find a trade partner. His redraft and dynasty value will be dependent on his landing spot, but he is likely to remain a top-end fantasy QB because of his running ability. As for Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews, and Baltimore’s other skill position players, this news makes their short- and long-term outlooks murky.
