This week’s NASCAR fantasy picks for the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
A few hearts were broken at The Brickyard last Sunday. Two, in particular.
For the first time in his career, Jimmie Johnson will not be competing for the Championship. He started in a great position, he overcame a few obstacles, but any chance he had of finishing near the top went up in flames after a wreck that ended his day in lap 105.
Daniel Suarez ended up just outside of the bubble with an 11th place finish. That left him looking on as the rest of his teammates at SHR made the playoffs.
Both drivers are still looking forward to the next ten races where both of them have the potential to nab their first win of the season.
You know who had a great day? Bubba Wallace, who enjoyed his 3rd place finish. Who else had a good day? Ryan Newman, who somehow pulled off the final spot in the 16 driver playoff grid. And Kevin Harvick? A great day kissing the bricks.
Without further ado, here are the drivers who will try to race their way into history this week in Las Vegas:
- Kyle Busch
- Denny Hamlin
- Martin Truex Jr.
- Kevin Harvick
- Joey Logano
- Brad Keselowski
- Chase Elliot
- Kurt Busch
- Alex Bowman
- Erik Jones
- Kyle Larson
- Ryan Blaney
- William Byron
- Aric Almirola
- Clint Bowyer
- Ryan Newman

And now, here are this week’s Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers NASCAR fantasy picks for the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Brilliant NASCAR fantasy picks
Martin Truex Jr.
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 4
- Top 10 finishes: 6
This intermediate track is exactly what Martin needs to get his groove back. A win on Sunday will leave him kicked back, relaxed, and ready for the round of 12. After last week’s lousy run, you can bet he’s ready to throw down in Sin City.
Joey Logano
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 4
- Top 10 finishes: 7
This is his best track. He won here at the start of the season, and I see no reason why he won’t do it again. Logano has had several bad finishes in recent weeks, but I believe he’ll build on the 2nd place momentum from the Brickyard and take it all the way on Sunday.
Brad Keselowski
- Wins: 3
- Top 5 finishes: 5
- Top 10 finishes: 7
Don’t count last week’s DNF against him. Brad loves this track, and the feeling is mutual. It’s his best shot to win his way into the next round, and I think he’ll do it with ease.
Bold NASCAR fantasy picks
Kyle Larson
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 3
- Top 10 finishes: 4
Larson has a great car, and he’s tearing it up. Literally—did you see him hit the wall last week and tear up that front wheel well? Anyway, with the exception of the Charlotte Roval, I predict that Larson will sail through the round of 16 with ease. A win in Vegas would cement that prediction.
Ryan Blaney
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 2
- Top 10 finishes: 4
If Blaney doesn’t win in Vegas, he’s out of luck until the Roval. And with a track that tricky, he’d be bucking the odds to get the win again. I expect the 12 team knows that, and they’re going to do all they can to see to it that this car ends up in victory lane this Sunday. Expect a good finish.
Kyle Busch
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 6
- Top 10 finishes: 8
Bush isn’t great in Vegas, but he’s good enough to win. I mean, he’s Kyle Busch. He could pull off a win just about anywhere (except the Charlotte Roval, but it’s only a matter of time). You can bet that the 18 wants to be the first driver to punch his ticket to the next round, and he’ll come out guns blazing to do so.
Bonkers NASCAR fantasy picks
Kurt Busch
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 1
- Top 10 finishes: 4
This is Kurt’s worst track. Expect better of him when it comes to just about any one of the next three races in the round of 16.
Erik Jones
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 0
- Top 10 finishes: 1
If Jones is going to make it to the round of 12, he’s going to have to do amazingly well at four tracks that have not been good to him. Vegas and the Roval are the toughest. I don’t expect to see him in victory lane at either.
Denny Hamlin
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 2
- Top 10 finishes: 6
Denny came back for a 6th place finish despite the odds at the Brickyard. I expect he’ll run well again this week, simply because the 11 team has “the stuff” this season. When it comes to a win, though, I think it’s his turn to sit this one out. He’ll punch his ticket to the 12 next week.
