Bears head coach Matt Nagy announced that rookie quarterback Justin Fields will play “past halftime” and potentially into the fourth quarter during Sunday’s preseason game against the Dolphins. While Andy Dalton will start at quarterback, Nagy added that Fields could quite possibly take reps with the first-team offense early in the game, too.
Fantasy Impact: The Bears, of course, traded up to select Fields in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Chicago hopes it has found its franchise quarterback but isn’t going to rush the Ohio State product into action. Andy Dalton is expected to start under center in Week 1 of the regular season with Fields waiting in the wings. If Fields impresses in training camp and the preseason, he’ll likely take over as the starter sometime mid-season. The 22-year-old ranks 22nd among quarterbacks in the latest expert consensus redraft rankings and 13th in dynasty.
