Dynasty managers live for the off-season. Whether you’re a Tanker trying to blow up the roster or a (Con)‘Tender looking for that final piece for a championship run, there are always moves to be made!
In this series, I will go team by team providing two players to target depending on whether your team is tanking or contending. I will also choose a roster clogger to trade before it’s too late!
2023 dynasty outlook: Arizona Cardinals
Tanker: Kyler Murray, QB
As an Arizona Cardinals fan, I absolutely love Kyler Murray. The production he was able to get with a failed college coach shows me that he has what it takes to be an elite quarterback. Even if he never reaches elite status, I think now is a great buy window given the general consensus thoughts football fans have of him.
Hopefully, the Kyler owner in your league is more of a ‘Tender and looking to get a fix for this year at the quarterback position. In Superflex, I would look to swap one of your quarterbacks in a package for Kyler to improve at the position long-term while helping you lose more games this year for a better shot at a top pick in 2024.
‘Tender: James Conner, RB
At age 28, James Conner is currently the only running back in Arizona worth rostering in fantasy football. Even when the Cardinals were floundering at the end of the 2022 season, James Conner was extremely productive. He was at least an RB2 each week from weeks 9-17 with four top 5 finishes. At his age, he wouldn’t cost much to acquire but would be a really solid RB2 or Flex play for a contending team.
I’ve seen James Conner go for a 2nd round pick. To me, that seems like very good value for a contending team. You are likely picking at the end of the 2nd and throwing a dart to hopefully find a consistent starter at that pick. Even if Conner has one more productive season, he is well worth that for a contending team.
Clogger: Rondale Moore, WR
Two words come to mind when I think of Rondale Moore. Small and Hurt. Although the Purdue product has the speed and explosiveness to be a solid NFL receiver, he has yet to stay on the field and produce up to his expectations. With the possible departure of Hopkins, Moore might have an increase in opportunity. However, there are many obstacles in his way including a brand new head coach, an offensive coordinator, and a hurt quarterback.
A tanking team in your league might see his name and 22 years of age and be open to acquiring Moore. If you can find a cooperating manager, I feel acquiring a second would be an absolute steal, even if you have to include a 3rd or second young and unproven player. This move eliminates 2 roster cloggers in Rondale and your 3rd round pick and gives you a second chance at finding a more reliable mid-tier WR or depth at a different position of need.
