The New England Patriots don’t feel as strongly about rookie running back Sony Michel’s (knee) Week 1 availability as they do about Rex Burkhead’s (knee). Michel has missed valuable time in training camp and the preseason because of his injury, and he was likely third on the depth chart, at best, behind Burkhead and James White entering the season. While the rookie has intriguing upside in head coach Bill Belichick’s offense, the reality is that he might not be ready for Week 1 and could struggle to see time on the field early in the year as he gets back to full health. Stash Michel for his upside as an RB3/flex type in 2018, but don’t expect the early returns to be promising.
