Waiver Wire Week 6: It appears Dallas can support a second fantasy-relevant wide receiver (Gallup) and Mohamed Sanu is making the most of his targets.
Week 5 is now in the books and hopefully, you survived without going up against the likes of Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffrey, Amari Cooper, Will Fuller, Chris Godwin, etc. If you didn’t fare so well, you’re not alone. It’s time to lick your wounds and see what you can do to get back into the win column come Week 6.
Week 6 appears to be a quiet waiver wire week, but that still doesn’t mean you can’t explore your options to better your team. I’ve identified several players who could be quality fantasy additions to your team after Week 5. They might be taking on a new role after an injury, flying under the radar, or possibly beginning to catch the attention of fantasy football fans.
As always we want to pay attention to injuries as more news comes out for some players. Most of the players listed below are the ones who are most likely available on your waiver wire in your league. Every player listed is owned in less than 50 percent of leagues (Yahoo and ESPN formats) with a few who might have a little more ownership, but possibly available.
Waiver Wire Week 6: Possibly owned, but worth a look
Will Dissly (TE, SEA)
Will Dissly’s ownership continues to climb but still sits around 86% in Yahoo and 76% in ESPN. He’s one to definitely check out the waivers for on the chance he might still be available, especially with the desolation at the tight end position.
Michael Gallup (WR, DAL)
Michael Gallup returned from his injury and had a very good Week 5 outing with 7 receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. It appears Dallas can support a second fantasy-relevant wide receiver, at least through five weeks. In the three games he’s played this year he has had 7-158, 6-68, and 7-113-1 stat lines. If he’s available in your league I would go out and get him.
Robby Anderson (WR, NYJ)
This one’s a speculative add if you’ve got room on your bench. The Jets are looking very bad on offense and once Sam Darnold returns they can realistically only improve. Darnold and Robby Anderson had a strong connection at the end of last year, which could return should they get things going again. If you’ve got room to stash him and are able to wait and see, this one might pay off in a couple of weeks.
Golden Tate (WR, NYG)
Golden Tate’s ownership jumped significantly in his first week back to action. The stat line for Week 5 wasn’t impressive, but he played on 66.2% of snaps and ran 90% of snaps from the slot position. With time and ability to build rapport with Daniel Jones, Tate could begin to see a lot more work out of the slot. Time will tell how long it takes to develop that rapport, but if you’ve got room to stash, it could pay off.
Waiver Wire Week 6: Less than 50% ownership
Gardner Minshew (QB, JAC)
Gardner Minshew mania continues and he’s been able to put up decent fantasy numbers. He finished Week 5 with 26 completions for 374 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 42 yards but fumbled three times. If you’re in need of a quarterback, maybe due to bye weeks, you could be much worse off than Minshew.
John Hilliman (RB, NYG)
John Hilliman may be the next man up in New York after a Wayne Gallman injury this last week. It’s not the most appealing addition to a team, but if you’re in a very deep league it never hurts to grab a starting running back. Expectations need to be managed though as Hilliman entered the season as the number three option.
Auden Tate (WR, CIN)
Cincinnati is a tough team to have any shares of in fantasy, but if you’re desperate at receiver Auden Tate could be a decent addition. With the John Ross injury and A.J. Green still sidelined, Tate filled in as then Bengals number 2 option. He finished with 3 receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown. He also had two drops, one of which would have been a touchdown. I wouldn’t expect him to be a game-changer, but at least you’re going to know that the Bengals will need to throw a lot in games.
Jamison Crowder (WR, NYJ)
Another Jets player is on this list somehow, but once again this is a pure speculative add. Jamison Crowder had 14 receptions in week 1 with Darnold under center and could jump back into the safety blanket for Darnold upon his return. If you’ve got room on your bench Crowder and able to hold a guy to see how things work out, Crowder could be a good wait and see stash.
Mohamed Sanu (WR, ATL)
Mohamed Sanu was on this list last week but also had a productive Week 5, with 5 receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown. He continues to get targeted by Matt Ryan and could be a sneaky flex play in the coming weeks. There’s always a chance for Julio Jones to get back to greatness and Calvin Ridley will get some attention as well, but Atlanta’s defense is very beatable, which leaves Ryan and the Falcons are going to have to pass quite a bit.
Chris Herndon (TE, NYJ)
Chris Herndon is a potential speculative add as he is looking to get more involved after serving his suspension. The Jets offense has been a dumpster fire lately, but with Darnold looking to return in the next few weeks they are capable of only getting better. It’s tough to tell what it might look like early on, but Herndon could come to the aid of a fantasy team who is desperate at the tight end position.
