Houston at NY Jets, +6.5
The Colts snapped the Texans’ nine game win streak as Houston falls to 9-4 at the top of the AFC South. They’ll be on the road this week against a 4-9 Jets team that just eked out a 27-23 win against the Bills. In the effort, quarterback Sam Darnold attempted 24 passes for 16 completions for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Their offense this season has been anemic to say the least, and coach Todd Bowles appears to be on his way out. With the Jets officially eliminated from playoff contention, I expect this Texans team to bounce back in a big way in this spot. I’m taking the Texans to win by at least a touchdown on the road.
Pick: Texans.
Saturday 8:20 PM EST
Cleveland at Denver, -3.5
The 5-7-1 Browns picked up another win last week against a struggling Panthers team 26-20. They’ll face a 6-7 Broncos team in Mile High stadium who just lost to the 49ers on the road. Denver suffered a big blow having lost star wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to an achilles injury, and have very little hope of making the playoffs. The Browns actually also have a path to the playoffs (albeit a convoluted and unlikely one), but Denver has one of the best home field advantages in the league. This line suggests it would only be a pick ‘em on a neutral field and I’m not convinced the Browns are quite there yet – I’ll take the Broncos to win and cover the 3.5 points.
Pick: Broncos.
