Week 2 was filled with scoring and down to the wire contests. Somehow we witnessed another tie, a game with a combined score of 79, and multiple kickers missing pee-wee-range field goals. Last week was not the best week from a prediction standpoint, but understand that I am not recommending the studs at each position. These are the players that are affordable enough to pair with studs. With all of that being said, let’s get into Week 3 DraftKings plays.
Week 3 DraftKings Plays
Matt Ryan (ATL, $5700)
After a forgettable Week 1, Matt Ryan bounced back tremendously against Carolina’s supposedly solid defense, gashing them with 272 yards and two touchdowns in the air to go with two touchdowns on the ground. This week he gets New Orleans, whose defense has been a major disappointment thus far. Look for Ryan to continue his hot streak at home this week in a potential shootout.
Jimmy Garoppolo (SF, $6500)
Although he has played better than his fantasy numbers suggest — 12 points in Week 1 and 16.6 in Week 2 — this is the week where the fantasy numbers should finally catch up to the terrific play of Jimmy Garoppolo. Game script will be on his side as he will be asked to throw the ball at least 30 times against the Chiefs’ high-powered offense. In addition, Kansas City’s defense has been dreadful this season, allowing 876 yards and 7 touchdowns in two games through the air.
Corey Clement (PHI, $4300)
With Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles both not playing in Week 3, Corey Clement is a no-brainer at this price. To be fair, the Colts run defense looked stout last week, only allowing Adrian Peterson to rush for 20 yards. However, they were shredded by Chris Thompson through the air as Thompson caught 13 of 14 targets for 92 yards. Clement proved that he can both catch and run the ball efficiently last week and with Carson Wentz playing his first game since his gruesome injury, look for Clement to get anywhere from 12 to 18 touches even with Wendell Smallwood vulturing touches.
Kenyan Drake (MIA, $5600)
Even with Frank Gore stealing touches, Drake has still managed to touch the ball at least 15 times per game through two contests. Oakland’s run defense will get shredded by Drake and Gore (but mostly Drake) this week as they are on the road and obviously without Khalil Mack. I can easily see close to 100 total yards and a touchdown for Drake this week.
Nelson Agholor (PHI, $6100)
After a tough and aggravating loss to the Buccaneers, Nelson Agholor and the entire Eagles organization will be fired up to play the Colts at home this weekend. Although Carson Wentz being under center for the first time in a while certainly will lead to more rushing than usual, Agholor will get plenty of opportunities to burn Indy’s burnable defense this week.
T.Y Hilton (IND, $6700)
On the other side of the ball, T.Y. Hilton gets a juicy matchup against a group of corners that could not defend the speedster DeSean Jackson last week. Hilton, if healthy on Sunday, has the speed and route-running to take the top off of the Eagles defense. He has also been emerging as more of a red zone threat and has been targeted there quite a bit in the past two weeks.
Jared Cook (OAK, $4000)
This game has sneaky shootout potential as both defenses have looked mediocre at best. The only reliable air weapon in that offense thus far has been none other than Jared Cook. He has been very consistent receiving plenty of attention from Derek Carr, though last week he had a very tough matchup that resulted in only 4 targets. This week should be a different story, and the Raiders need this win badly.
Jordan Reed (WAS, $5400)
Going up against this beatable Packers defense, Kyle Rudolph went for 72 yards on 7 catches. The game-script for Jordan Reed should be positive as well, as the Redskins are going to need to throw the ball a tone to have a chance in this contest. While Alex Smith has been a check-down artist so far, he will need to have more vertical attempts to go stride for stride with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offense. Reed will be the main benefactor of this increase in down-the-field targets.
Minnesota ($4300)
This is the week to spend money on a defense. Minnesota at home versus the rookie Josh Allen is music to my ears.
