Week 5 Quarterback Streaming Options We’re at the quarter point, folks! What a wacky first quarter. Did anyone out there start Mitch Trubisky last week? If you did, you’ve got bigger cojones than this fantasy writer. Congrats on that! I sincerely doubt that sort of production is sustainable from the second-year quarterback, but it’s definitely worth monitoring. Let’s get to the streamers!

Week 5 Quarterback Streaming Options

Marcus Mariota (TEN)

Welcome back to NFL relevance, Marcus Mariota! Now look, I’m not in the business of chasing points. I tend to fade players who do well in one week unless I see something sustainable. Enter Corey Davis. This might be a case of getting better by subtraction with the release of Rishard Matthews. We have a clear pecking order now, and Mariota thrived with it once the coaching staff let him loose. This week he’s taking on the Bills and their 21^st ranked defense against QBs. They’re giving up 18.6 points a game. I’m good with Mariota this week.

Blake Bortles (JAC)

Again, let’s not go crazy here. Blake Bortles did well last week, but he is what he is at this point. When the matchup is right, you’re okay with rolling out Bortles. The matchup is very, very right this week. The Jaguars are heading to Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs. This writer is an unabashed Chiefs fan, but unfortunately my team is ranked 28^th against QBs, giving up 24.5 points to the position per game. Fire up Bortles this week. (But GO CHIEFS!)

Derek Carr (OAK)

Derek Carr keeps trending up, yet I still find him on most of my waiver wires. He’s going up against the Chargers this week, who have been much softer than expected against the pass. They’re ranked 22^nd against QBs so far, giving up 21.2 points to the position per game. Carr should be just fine.

Josh Rosen (ARI)

Here we go again with the rookies. I know, Josh Rosen isn’t a super appealing option at this point. However, if you’re desperate, go watch the film he put up last week. It’s not going to blow you away, but it’s more solid than his numbers might lead you to believe. Rosen is going up against a 49ers defense that’s been decimated by injuries, leading to their 25^th place ranking against QBs. They’re giving up 23 points a game to passers. If you’re desperate, you can start Rosen and expect a solid line.

Dak Prescott (DAL)

Here’s another pick that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. That being said, the Cowboys started to look like they figured out what to do with their QB against the Lions last week. The Cowboys are taking on the Texans this week, at 24^th against QBs. They’re giving up 21.4 points to the position per game so far. Nobody is scared of the Texans secondary, so you can give Dak Prescott a chance this week.

Alex Smith (WAS)

I was a little surprised at the availability of Alex Smith in a lot of my leagues, so I thought now would be a good time to remind you all of something important: the Saints defense still isn’t scary. The Giants might be able to make them look scary, but they’re not. The Saints are ranked 31^st against QB’s, giving up 27.9 points a game to the position. The Redskins are playing them on Monday night, so get Alex in there and let him get you a solid line.
