Here’s my NASCAR fantasy advice guiding you to the Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers drivers for the second cup series race this week at Charlotte Motor Speedway: The Alsco Uniforms 500
Brilliant – These NASCAR drivers have the best shot at winning in Charlotte
Martin Truex Jr.
Wins at Charlotte: 3
Top 5 finishes: 7
Top 10 finishes: 12
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Truex for the win on Wednesday night under the lights at Charlotte.
Chase Elliott
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 3
Top 10 finishes: 4
So, so close…yet so far away. Chase ended up with a 2nd place finish thanks to the disqualification of the No. 48 team. But you know the No. 9 is itching for a victory—expect him to do everything in his power to achieve it.
Kyle Busch
Wins at Charlotte:1
Top 5 finishes: 14
Top 10 finishes: 19
Kyle Busch had a decent finish on Sunday night despite the many obstacles in his way. I have a feeling he might turn that 5th place finish into something better by the end of 208 laps on Wednesday night.
Bold – These are my NASCAR sleeper picks
Alex Bowman
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 2
Alex Bowman looked great at Charlotte on Sunday night, despite his double-digit finish. He led 164 laps and won two stages. As long as his luck holds, he might just pull off his first win of the season on Wednesday.
Matt Kenseth
Wins at Charlotte: 2
Top 5 finishes: 12
Top 10 finishes: 20
A speeding penalty put Kenseth to the rear after a promising start, and a skid up the raceway and into the wall only added to his misery. Still, I think he has a good grip on this track and a great car to make a run for the win at the second Charlotte outing of the week.
Kurt Busch
Wins at Charlotte: 6
Top 5 finishes: 13
Top 10 finishes: 21
Kurt Busch started off well, slipped down the mid-range, then picked it back up near the end. An 8th place finish is nothing to be ashamed of, but Kurt might just pull off a number-one on his second round.
Bonkers – Stay away from these NASCAR drivers in your fantasy lineup this week
Aric Almirola
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 1
Aric Almirola had a bad night from the start after hitting a piece of debris that dropped out of the No. 11 car before the race even began. This isn’t a great place for Almirola regardless, so I’d still leave him out of your NASCAR Fantasy lineup for Charlotte round two.
Ryan Newman
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 5
Top 10 finishes: 15
I’m looking forward to seeing Newman in victory lane this season after coming back from his accident at the Daytona 500. But, I don’t think that’s gonna happen this week. Hold off on the No. 6 until a better track comes his way.
William Byron
Wins at Charlotte:01
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 1
It seems like every time Byron has a good run, something happens to slow him down. It’s been a rough start to the NASCAR return for the No. 24, and I think it might take a few more laps before he settles in.
