Not only did last week’s Bold pick Denny Hamlin win the Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami, but he also won the first two stages as well. Do you think that anyone will be able to win all three stages at Talladega Superspeedway? This track is so tricky, it would be an amazing feat. When all of the crashes and smashes are over, who will be left to take home the trophy at the end of the GEICO 500?
Here’s my NASCAR fantasy advice guiding you to the Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers drivers for the cup series race this week at Talladega Superspeedway: The GEICO 500
Brilliant – These NASCAR drivers have the best shot at winning at Talladega
Brad Keselowski
Wins at Talladega: 5
Top 5 finishes: 7
Top 10 finishes: 11
He has two wins under his belt already this season, but there’s a good chance he’ll make it three on Sunday. Keselowski has taken home the trophy at Talladega five times in his career—how does he make it through the chaos? Anyone who knows how to stay out of trouble deserves a spot in the brilliant section this weekend.
Joey Logano
Wins at Talladega: 3
Top 5 finishes: 8
Top 10 finishes: 10
Just like his teammate, Logano has figured out a way to race clean when it counts. Three wins plus a pretty good season so far equals the likelihood of a win. As long as Chase Elliott doesn’t have other plans, look for the 22 to be the last man standing.
Chase Elliott
Wins at Talladega: 1
Top 5 finishes: 3
Top 10 finishes: 4
There’s no denying that Chase has turned up the heat this season for some pretty spectacular finishes and one win already. Could it have been two if not for Joey Logano? Probably. It might just come down to the two of them when the dust settles on the final lap on Sunday.
Bold – These are my NASCAR sleeper picks
Ryan Blaney
Wins at Talladega: 1
Top 5 finishes: 2
Top 10 finishes: 3
Blaney’s season has been super-hot since Charlotte, but without a win in sight. He’s won here before, which shows that he’s got some luck on his side when it comes to the craziness. If he can run a clean race, he’ll be taking a bow to the crowd of 5,000 Sunday evening.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Wins at Talladega: 1
Top 5 finishes: 5
Top 10 finishes: 8
Stenhouse has a few good tracks, and this is probably his best. I imagine he counts on it every season to boost his points and show him some love. It’s been a disappointing season for the No. 47, but a win on Sunday could make up for it all.
Aric Almirola
Wins at Talladega: 1
Top 5 finishes: 4
Top 10 finishes: 8
Almirola has a chance to make history at Talladega on Sunday. He currently holds the record for most consecutive top-10 finishes at the track—that would be seven. The record is currently held by Dale Earnhardt Jr. with eight. This is one of Double-A’s better tracks, and it would be appropriate if he continued his streak with a first-place finish.
Bonkers – Stay away from these NASCAR drivers in your fantasy lineup this week
Martin Truex Jr.
Wins at Talladega: 0
Top 5 finishes: 2
Top 10 finishes: 8
This is one of the toughest tracks to predict, but Truex has never been good here. Somehow he ends up in the middle of the accidents. Yes, he’s sitting on the pole, but that might be worse than starting in the rear. If anything happens early, he’ll be in the thick of it. He might still have a good finish, but I highly doubt it’s gonna be in the number-one slot.
Matt Kenseth
Wins at Talladega: 1
Top 5 finishes: 6
Top 10 finishes: 10
I’ve loved seeing Kenseth out on the track these past weeks since he took over for Larson in the 42. But it seems as though he hasn’t shown us that fire he had when he first came back at Darlington. I still think that Matt is a helluva driver, and we’re sure to see some magic yet, but it’s not likely gonna be at Talladega.
Alex Bowman
Wins at Talladega: 0
Top 5 finishes: 1
Top 10 finishes: 2
Someone has to sit on the bonkers list. Yes, I believe that this is anyone’s race, but I also believe that Bowman has less of a shot than the rest. So, hopefully, he won’t fly through the rubble and prove me wrong.
