Here is my selection of Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers picks for this weekend’s South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Brilliant – These NASCAR drivers have the best shot to win in Vegas
Joey Logano
Joey Logano picked a great time to start warming up. A competitive spirit like his thrives in the pressure of the playoffs. Despite his up and down season, I’d bank on him in the round of eight, if not the final four. A win in Vegas would go a long way toward securing it.
Las Vegas Wins: 2
Top-5 finishes: 6
Top-10 finishes: 11
Kyle Larson
I’m just gonna put this right here. And leave it. For the rest of the 2021 NASCAR Fantasy season.
Las Vegas Wins: 1
Top-5 finishes: 4
Top-10 finishes: 7
Brad Keselowski
Of all the drivers on this list, Brad Keselowski has the most impressive record in Las Vegas. Since 2013, he has only finished outside of the top-10 once. And that was just barely outside. Now is the time to make something happen if he wants to keep going in the playoffs— and this is as good a place as any for the No. 2 to get it done..
Las Vegas Wins: 3
Top-5 finishes: 8
Top-10 finishes: 11
Bold – These are my NASCAR sleeper picks for the South Point 400 in Las Vegas
Kyle Busch
Like him or not, Kyle Busch is a pretty good driver with a pretty good record at his home track. His season hasn’t been what he expected, but it was a hell of a lot better than last year. He may or may not win Sunday night, but I know he’ll put a good show either way.
Las Vegas Wins: 1
Top-5 finishes: 8
Top-10 finishes: 11
Martin Truex Jr.
SInce 2014, Martin Truex Jr. has only finished outside the top ten here three times. In the last eight races, he’s finished in the top-10 for every single stage. Despite all of the obstacles in the path of the No. 19 each week, he comes back in the end for a solid finish. Keep an eye out for another win on Sunday night.
Las Vegas Wins: 2
Top-5 finishes: 6
Top-10 finishes: 10
Ryan Blaney
How many people have noticed Ryan Blaney running hot since Road America? Yeah, same here. The driver of the No. 12 doesn’t call much attention to himself, but that might change Sunday night. His numbers here are pretty good; couple that with his hot streak and watch him break loose from the pack for a lucky win in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Wins: 0
Top-5 finishes: 4
Top-10 finishes: 1
Bonkers – Stay away from these NASCAR drivers in your fantasy lineup in Sin City
Kurt Busch
Kurt Bush got his first win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last September. That was a different time with a different streak. Right now it seems as though nothing can go right for the driver of the No.1. Tiem for him to run well and look ahead to next season where he’ll race with Bubba at 23XI.
Las Vegas Wins: 1
Top-5 finishes: 3
Top-10 finishes: 6
Chase Elliott
Chase Elliott has plenty of stage points and stage wins, but never a trip to victory lane. Yes, we all know he’ll race hard, but it’s not gonna be hard enough to beat some of the seasoned veterans on this list.
Las Vegas Wins: 0
Top-5 finishes: 2
Top-10 finishes: 3
William Byron
William Byron snuck into the round of 12 by the skin of his teeth with a third-place finish last week. He could be heading for a hot streak, or he could have been desperate to stick around in the playoffs. Either way, I don’t expect a win in Vegas for the No. 24. Sit him out until he faces another elimination.
Las Vegas Wins: 0
Top-5 finishes: 0
Top-10 finishes: 2
