This week’s Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers NASCAR fantasy picks for the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway
Brilliant NASCAR fantasy picks
Kevin Harvick
- Wins: 2
- Top 5 finishes: 10
- Top 10 finishes: 21
If the bottom four drivers were eliminated today, Harvick would be one of them. He’s sitting right below the cutoff line, but you can imagine that doesn’t faze him going into the next two races. Harvick has delivered at both Texas and Phoenix in the past, and he’s likely to deliver once again at both tracks as we wind down the 2019 season.
Denny Hamlin
- Wins: 3
- Top 5 finishes: 7
- Top 10 finishes: 13
This has been a great season for the veteran driver who didn’t see victory lane even once in 2018. It’s tough to argue with the streak, especially when a driver is heading to one of his better tracks. He finished 1st here in the spring, and as long as Logano doesn’t decide to bump-and-run, Denny has a great shot at securing his place at Homestead on Sunday.
Clint Bowyer
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 4
- Top 10 finishes: 12
Bowyer came in 2nd to Denny Hamlin at Texas Motor Speedway in the spring, and he had a good run in his first practice round on Friday. His season has been filled with “almost’s” and “just about’s,” but if he can lock in on Sunday, he’s got a fair chance at taking the win.
Bold NASCAR fantasy picks
Erik Jones
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 3
- Top 10 finishes: 4
Finally. Jones is finally at a track where he’s had success in the past. He finished 4th here in March, and you can bet he’ll enjoy a good run at Texas Motor Speedway that could lead to a victory on Sunday.
Kurt Busch
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 3
- Top 10 finishes: 20
Kurt started the season strong, then cooled down. He’s been picking up steam in his last few races, though, and he has a good record at this track. He scored a top-ten finish in the spring, his car looks fast in practice, and that makes me think that the older Busch brother might be able to visit victory lane one more time in 2019.
Jimmie Johnson
- Wins: 7
- Top 5 finishes: 16
- Top 10 finishes: 22
With his 5th place finish here in March, it shows that Johnson still has a bit of his mojo left on this Texas track. Time is running out for the No. 48 to make something happen, and this is his best track out of the remaining three. If Jimmie can get upfront and stay there at the end, I don’t think that anyone in the MENCS would get in his way to prevent a win.
Bonkers NASCAR fantasy picks
Brad Keselowski
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 5
- Top 10 finishes: 8
It’s been a bit of time since Keselowski has had good luck on this track. With the streak he’s been on lately, it’s unlikely that Brad takes the American flag for a spin up the raceway on Sunday.
Ryan Newman
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 3
- Top 10 finishes: 6
Newman has competed on this track 32 times, and the numbers show that it obviously isn’t his best. The lonesome win he had was way back in 2003. Don’t expect to see the No. 6 rolling in for a victory at Texas Motor Speedway anytime soon.
Alex Bowman
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 0
- Top 10 finishes: 0
Bowman was hot a few races back, but he seems to have cooled down considerably. I imagine he’ll hit the track running when the 2020 season starts, but I don’t expect him to have a top ten finish, let alone take the win, in Texas on Sunday.
