This week’s NASCAR fantasy picks for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
I can’t remember that last time I saw a driver rush up to another driver and start pummeling them through the window before they even had a chance to get out of their car. Yet, that’s exactly what we all witnessed at the end of the All-Star Race last weekend.
Truthfully, I feel that Fox’s immediate cutaway coverage of this incident took away from Kyle Larson’s dramatic and well-deserved win, and I tend to wonder if they would have done the same to Kyle Bush or Kevin Harvick if they were the winners that night. But fights are fun, after all, and I was cracking up as I watched these two go at it.
NASCAR drivers are famous for throwing post-race punches, and this isn’t the first fight either of these two guys have been involved in. These two are known hot-heads and the only thing that surprised me was that they went at each other. They’ve been competitors and buddies for a long time, but I guess that all’s fair in love, war, and racing.
They’ve since made up, as they were both scheduled to attend an autograph signing session at Bass pro Shops in Concord on Thursday. They were able to sit next to each other and make small talk and jokes, though they were not overly-friendly through the event. Both have stated that they have talked things over and will move on from last week’s altercation. Let’s hope.

And now, here are this week’s Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers NASCAR Fantasy picks for the Coca-Cola 600 At Charlotte Motor Speedway:
Brilliant NASCAR fantasy picks
Kevin Harvick
- Wins: 3
- Top 5 finishes: 8
- Top 10 finishes: 16
Is Kevin Harvick hot? No. Is he cold? No. He’s kind of warm, with the potential to heat up at a track where he’s has such great luck. After losing the All-Star Race by a smidge, I think he’ll carry over that anger and disappointment to this week where it fuels him into his first win of the season.
Clint Bowyer
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 2
- Top 10 finishes: 5
Clint has had a good season this far, with most of his finishes in the top ten. His high energy personality is perfect for long night races on tracks like Charlotte, and I think he has what it takes to get it done this week. He’s going to push his way into that winner’s circle eventually, as long as he can keep a cool head and stay focused on driving hard and clean.
Aric Almirola
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 0
- Top 10 finishes: 1
If someone from SHR is going to win this race, why not Aric Almirola? Are his numbers great? No, but he’s finally with an organization that’s given him the tools he needs to be a success. The win this week is Fords for the taking, and Double-A could easily be the one to get it done.
Bold NASCAR fantasy picks
Austin Dillon
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 1
- Top 10 finishes: 2
I feel like Dillon qualifies well every week, and his practice runs are awesome, but when the green flag waves, these things just don’t stick. I’m hoping that his 7th place finish at the All-Star Race, coupled with his 4th place starting position this week, will give him the confidence he needs to bring it home at Charlotte.
Kyle Larson
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 1
- Top 10 finishes: 4
When you’re hot, you’re hot. Last week’s hot finish puts Larson in a good position to take the win on a race that counts for much more than a million-dollar payout. Qualifying didn’t treat the 42 team very well, but he’s got 600 laps to make up those spots. He did it in fewer laps last week, and he did it with ease.
Kyle Busch
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 12
- Top 10 finishes: 17
If it comes down to the 4, the 14, and the 18, you’re not going to see an M & M victory. Those Fords are desperate and shrewd, and they’ll wreck themselves before they let this guy have it. If he can get up front in clean air without anyone aggressive around him, though, he’ll be burning it down by the end of the night.
Bonkers NASCAR fantasy picks
Denny Hamlin
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 9
- Top 10 finishes: 17
Denny won the All-Star race here in 2015, but a points-win in Charlotte still eludes him. True, he has some good numbers on the track, but the 11 team seems to be regressing slightly after their hot start. I don’t know how long the cool streak will last, but after a dismal qualifying, I don’t think it will end here.
Ryan Newman
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 5
- Top 10 finishes: 15
Holy cow, man. After 35 races in Charlotte, this is where Newman stands. I predicted a bonkers finish at the All-Star race, and I stand behind that for the 600.
Jimmie Johnson
- Wins: 8
- Top 5 finishes: 16
- Top 10 finishes: 21
Maybe I’ve been jinxing this guy by putting him in the bold and brilliant categories this season at tracks where he really should have won. If I stick him here, it might have an opposite effect. Sadly, despite the temptation to pick him this week when you look at those amazing numbers, I think he’s an unwise choice.
