Free-agent QB Alex Smith has reportedly been approached by Jacksonville Jaguars’ new head coach Urban Meyer and engaged in conversations about a potential reunion in Jacksonville during the upcoming 2021 season.
Fantasy Impact: While Meyer expressed interest in reuniting with his former college quarterback, he noted that the medical staff in Jacksonville remains very concerned about Smith’s health. “There are some medical people in our organization that were very concerned. And remember, our G.M. actually drafted Alex at San Francisco. So you have two people in Jacksonville that love Alex…But that’s something that we’re just going to keep an eye on because I hope he comes back.” Smith led Washington to a 5-1 record in 2020, throwing for 1582 yards and a 6:8 TD: INT ratio across six starts in eight games. While his numbers certainly aren’t eye-popping, Meyer and his staff remain optimistic about bringing Smith in to tutor and relieve projected No.1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence if he is able to progress through a calf injury that sidelined him during the last half of the 2020 season.
