Jeremy Fowler with ESPN is reporting on Sportscenter that Allen Robinson, who was recently franchise tagged by the Chicago Bears, has “zero plans to sign his franchise tag in the immediate future.”
Fantasy Impact: The Bears placed the franchise tag on Robinson earlier in the week, valued at just under $16M for receivers in 2021. Robinson’s frustrations with the Bears and desire to leave Chicago have been pretty well-documented over the last year. The report by Jeremy Fowler corroborates the expected frustration that many believed Robinson would feel without a move from Chicago. As of now, there is no threat of a holdout. But we’ve seen Le’Veon Bell and Melvin Gordon both refuse to play under a franchise tag in recent years and Derrick Henry threatened to do the same just last year. It will be interesting to see whether the Bears look to rework a long-term deal, trade Robinson under the tag, or hope that he signs his franchise tender and plays in the 2021 season. As of now though, there is no reason to expect anything besides the last option. We will keep you updated as more news becomes available.
