Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield will continue to engage in contract extension discussions with the organization into mid-season, per Mary Kay Cabot on Twitter.
Fantasy Impact: Mayfield already had his fifth-year option worth $18.858 million picked up by the Browns, which guarantees his return with the team in 2022. Waiting until later in the season will do both sides a favor, with Mayfield getting the opportunity to continue his play from the latter half of last season and the Browns’ front office getting more reps to evaluate before committing to the quarterback long-term. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen entered the league in 2018 alongside Mayfield and are expected to get their extensions completed before him, which allows Mayfield to negotiate his market value by referencing their contract extensions. Mayfield had just over a 3 TD : 1 INT ratio in 2020 while taking the Browns to the AFC Divisional round before falling 22-17 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
