Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has requested a trade, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Fantasy Impact: It’s been a busy week for Mayfield and the Browns. Although Cleveland is reportedly no longer in the running for a Deshaun Watson trade, the team’s interest in Watson made it clear that they are looking for an upgrade. Pelissero notes that the team wanted to meet with Mayfield to mend any issues, “but from the QB’s perspective, the bridge is burned and it’s time to move on now.” The former No. 1 pick has a trio of six-win seasons under his belt, plus an 11-win campaign that included a playoff bid in 2020. This past season, he made 14 starts, completing 60.5 percent of his passes for 3,010 yards, 13 interceptions, and a career-low 17 touchdowns. His struggles prompted Odell Beckham Jr. to initiate his eventual release, and it could have played a role in Jarvis Landry’s recent departure. Whoever lines up under center for Cleveland next season will have weapons like Amari Cooper, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and David Njoku surrounding them. Meanwhile, Mayfield’s request should motivate teams to call about a potential trade. Perhaps the Colts and Seahawks could look into his services after trading their own quarterbacks. New Orleans could represent another landing spot if it fails to acquire Deshaun Watson.
