QB Baker Mayfield is expected to be released by the Carolina Panthers on Monday, according to sources.
Fantasy Impact: Mayfield’s tenure with Carolina will come to an unceremonious end and he is expected to hit waivers on Monday afternoon. The former number one overall pick quickly flamed out after being traded to the Panthers from the Browns, being benched for journeyman PJ Walker earlier in the season and supplanted by Sam Darnold as well. Mayfield has not looked like a capable NFL starter in over two full seasons, but could get a shot as a backup elsewhere, simply given his age and draft pedigree.
