Dave Birkett with Detroit Free Press is reporting that D’Andre Swift can be a 25-touch-per-game running back in 2021 on the new-look Detroit Lions team.
Fantasy Impact: Swift showed some explosiveness as a rookie in Detroit but was limited with Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson on the roster. Swift wasn’t named the starter until Week 10 and then was promptly knocked out of that game with a concussion. The concussion caused him to miss the next three games or play in a limited role before regaining his starting duties again in Week 15. Overall, Swift averaged just 13.2 touches per game as a rookie. The 2020 35th overall pick was selected by the Lions for his soft hands and abilities in open space. With Anthony Lynn now the offensive coordinator in Detroit, Swift may be utilized as a feature back, similar to what we saw in 2020 with a healthy Austin Ekeler. Our current Expert Consensus Ranking for 2021 has Swift as RB16. However, if the reports of 25-plus touches per game are true, that would assuredly lock him in for RB1 production. With a new head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterback at the helm next season, the Lions should expect to see drastic changes to their rushing attack, which ranked 29th in 2020.
