Joe Rexrode with The Athletic is stating that although the Titans viewed Darrynton Evans as an afterthought last season, he should see an increased role as a change of pace back in 2021. Rexrode pegged Evans as the Titans’ breakout candidate.
Fantasy Impact: Evans played just five games through an injury-plagued rookie campaign as Derrick Henry rumbled his way to a 2,027-rushing yard season. Now, heading into his second year, Evans is healthy and expected to take on a change of pace role alongside his 27-year-old superstar teammate. Henry saw a career-high 31 targets last year, but that was mainly due to lack of competition in the backfield. Evans has been spotted at camp taking reps with the wide receivers and could help spell Henry as he heads into his sixth season. Including playoffs, Henry has an obscene 782 carries over the last two years. No other running back in the league has seen more than 600 over that stretch. With Titans’ offensive coordinator Arthur Smith leaving Tennessee and Julio Jones joining the team, this could be a very different Titans squad than what we’ve seen in the recent past. Currently ranked as the RB61 according to our Expert Consensus rankings, involvement in the passing game could make Evans more than just a handcuff. He is a decent late-round target in fantasy drafts.
