David Johnson acknowledges reduced role with Texans in 2021

Houston Texans RB David Johnson acknowledged his reduced role with the team heading into 2021, per Aaron Reiss of The Athletic.

Fantasy Impact: The 29-year old former All-Pro running back has not looked the same as he did when he dominated with the Cardinals, averaging a low 0.94 yards per route run last season with the Texans. The signing of Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram could leave Johnson as the third-down option, which he addressed to the media, saying, “Obviously, as it’s going on, in the moment it’s tough…But I think in the long run, it will just help out the team as a whole.” Lindsay is currently valued as the RB53 in half-PPR formats and could return RB4 or perhaps RB3 value if Johnson’s role really does wind up reduced to a third-down role. Johnson’s RB35 value is too high if this holds true, making him a fade in most redraft leagues in favor of Zack Moss, Kenyan Drake, or James Conner later within the eighth round.
