The Patriots and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux have agreed to a two-year extension, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter. The pact pays out $20.8 million, including $17.85 million in guaranteed money.
Fantasy Impact: The extension reportedly creates $1.5 million in cap space for the Patriots, so perhaps this is the precursor to another move. Of course, New England was already up against the cap, so it’s also possible that the move was made to offer some general flexibility. Regardless of the reason, New England locks up a key piece of its defensive line for a couple more seasons. Signed away from Miami in 2021, Godchaux amassed 65 tackles and one sack through 17 games (16 starts) last year. He projects to win a Week 1 starting job once again this season.
