Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence recently declined to take a paycut, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. As a result, Lawrence could be released in the near future.
Fantasy Impact: Lawrence is set to earn $19 million in 2022 and $21 million in 2023. However, when a player declines a paycut, that’s generally a sign that he’ll be released. If Dallas does decide to cut the pass-rusher, it would create $8 million in cap space while incurring $19 million in dead money. It’s worth noting that those figures would be reversed if Dallas cuts him after June 1st, but it remains to be seen if they’re willing to wait that long. Lawrence is a two-time Pro Bowler who has spent the entirety of his eight-year career with the Cowboys. Through seven games this past season, he racked up three sacks, 21 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception. If he hits the open market, he should generate plenty of interest.
