According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, there “isn’t a lot of optimism” that S Jessie Bates, who has opted not to attend OTAs without a long-term deal, is going to see the deal he wants before the July 15 deadline.
Fantasy Impact: Bates has yet to appear for any offseason work with the Cincinnati Bengals. The franchise-tag deadline is on July 15, and Bates hasn’t signed his tag. Garafolo doesn’t see Bates attending training camp without his desired deal, but that long-term deal seems unlikely at this point. The Bengals’ defense was very important to the team’s playoff success, and the former All-Pro safety was a major contributor. If he were to continue to hold out, it would likely force the Bengals to play one of the two safeties they drafted in his place. The Bengals were the 18th-ranked DST last season, and this will only hurt their team in 2022.
