According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, QB Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers agreed on a new one-year contract worth $6 million guaranteed and up to $16 million that would make him the highest-paid backup in the league.
Fantasy Impact: This will keep Garoppolo in San Francisco while also making sophomore QB Trey Lance the clear-starting QB going forward. This also means that he will not get cut and make his way to Cleveland or Seattle. Garoppolo likely won’t creep in on Lance’s job, but if Lance starts slow, voices might be loud to push Garoppolo back into the lineup. Regardless, draft and play Lance with the same confidence for now.
