Larry Rountree III was released by the Chargers following their preseason debut.
Fantasy Impact: Rountree has not flashed since being selected by the Chargers in the sixth-round of the 2021 NFL draft. Additionally, Rountree was significantly outperformed by the rest of the RB group in Los Angeles in their preseason debut. While the team as a whole averaged 6.8 yards per carry, Rountree showed little burst as he carried the ball five times for just nine yards (1.8 YPC). The Chargers will head into Week 2 of the preseason with Joshua Kelley, Isaiah Spiller, Elijah Dotson, and Tyler Hoosman all competing for a backup role behind Austin Ekeler. In an offense that is expected to take a giant leap forward in 2023, whoever earns the backup RB role will be a viable handcuff option.
