Talking to reporters Saturday, Dallas Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said WR Michael Gallup made a “huge step” this offseason, and that “Michael is playing all three receiver positions.” McCarthy added playing all three receiver positions gives Gallup “more opportunities” in the passing game.
Fantasy Impact: Because of the difference in target distance for the three receiver roles – X, Z, and slot – in an offense, the variety in Gallup’s alignment, route tree gives the WR more opportunities at short and medium depth targets, according to Michael Gehlken. Entering a contract year, Gallup’s less than two years removed from a 66-catch, 1,107-yard season. Last season, the WR was essentially a deep threat. Gallup totaled an 11.8 average target distance, 17 deep targets, and a 27.4% air yards share.
