Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Chargers are not expected to extend WR Mike Williams, who will be playing 2021 on his fifth-year option.
Fantasy Impact: Williams, 26-years old, could potentially be looking for a new home after 2021. This is because the Chargers will not be extending Williams, who enters this season playing out his $15.7M fifth-year option. Williams was selected seventh overall in the 2017 NFL Draft and while talented, has yet to live up to his potential. Consistency has been an issue for Williams as he has totaled 151 catches for 2,516 yards and 17 touchdowns over a four year span. If Williams does have a breakout season in 2021, he could be in a good position to cash in during free agency. For fantasy football purposes this won’t impact Williams’ 2021 outlook where he is currently ranked as WR 48. To be fair, Williams does have a great chance to outperform his current ADP as he is on a high octane offense with a young, promising QB in Justin Herbert and could be a late round sleeper.
