Mitch Trubisky will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers’ first preseason game according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
Fantasy Impact: Trubisky getting the nod for the first preseason game is good news for fantasy managers with Steeler pieces. Rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett has struggled early in camp; and the veteran, Mason Rudolph, is not going to be the answer – even in the short term. According to Mike Tomlin’s interview with CBS Sports, Trubisky would be the QB1 if the season were to start today. Tomlin stated, “Mitch has won in this league, the statistics bear that out and he has more experience than the others.” Trubisky has a knack for hyper targeting his receivers, something Diontae Johnson managers will want to see. As a starting quarterback from 2018 – 2020, Trubisky had a top-5 targeted running back. Trubisky starting helps prop up Najee Harris’ value in 2022.
