Jeff Howe of The Athletic hears that a trade involving Patriots wide receiver Nelson Agholor is “unlikely” due to difficult logistics surrounding a potential deal. This report comes in the wake of speculation that Agholor could be traded if he doesn’t earn a roster spot out of camp.
Fantasy Impact: The biggest obstacle is clearly Agholor’s $10 million cap hit for 2022. While the Patriots would love to get his contract off the books, Howe notes that “there aren’t many teams that want to pick up a $10 million cap hit for a No. 2-3 receiver.” He also shuts down the idea of New England eating some of his salary because then the team would be paying him to play for a different team and they still wouldn’t get much in return. It remains to be seen what happens with Agholor, but don’t bet on a trade. The 29-year-old ranks 90th among receivers in the latest ECR and is expected to see his value decline following the additions of DeVante Parker and rookie Tyquan Thornton.
