The Jets’ defense allowed 16 points, recorded two sacks, and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown in Monday’s 24-16 preseason victory against the Falcons.
Fantasy Impact: The Jets’ defense looked lost at times against Atlanta starters in the first half. The secondary was leaving receivers wide-open and allowing big yardage plays. They came out with a different level of aggressiveness in the second half, forcing two quick negative yardage plays and later Bradlee Anae forced a fumble and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown that ended up being the difference in the game. The Jets’ defense did not give up any points after Atlanta got up 16-0 and allowed the Jets’ offense and defense to score 24 unanswered points. The Jets’ defense is loaded with talent, young and old, and has the potential to be a sleeper in most formats. They play a tough first month of the season and their first nine weeks before their bye week are as brutal as any team in the NFL. However, with all the potential on their defense, they could end up being a great fantasy asset against certain matchups but should not be drafted or used as someone’s solo DST until more is known about how their defense will fare this season. Pro Bowl kick returner Braxton Berrios offers value to the Jets DST, especially in leagues that reward return yards to defenses. He also has the potential to run every kick back for a touchdown making the Jets defense even more of a sleeper candidate. Fantasy managers could do a lot worse than the Jets.
