In the aftermath of Sam Darnold being traded, the Panthers are left with a crowded quarterback room. Teddy Bridgewater is clearly the odd man out, and he has now been given permission to facilitate a trade out of Carolina if he so desires.
Fantasy Impact: It’s unclear how aggressively Bridgewater will search for a trade, but Monday’s trade makes it evident that he isn’t in the Panthers’ long-term plans. He signed a three-year, $63 million deal ahead of 2020 and struggled in his first year with the team. Over 15 games, he completed 340 passes for 3,733 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He was also sacked 31 times. His health was a concern, too, as he frequented the medical tent and injury report. While Bridgewater still deserves a chance to prove himself, it probably won’t come in Carolina. The Panthers are committed to Darnold after picking up his fifth-year option and are evidently already working with Bridgewater to trade him.
