Dan Duggan of The Athletic expects Saquon Barkley to play in Week 1’s matchup against the Broncos. He said, “My sense is that Barkley will be in the lineup for the opener but won’t have a full workload.” He also added that Barkley may “not have as many opportunities as in the past since the team is intent on not overworking him.”
Fantasy Impact: Barkley saw a massive workload as a rookie and churned out 2,028 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns over a full season. Then, nagging injuries caused him to miss three games in his sophomore season, and an ACL tear in Week 2 cut his 2020 campaign short. Now, heading into Year 4, the Giants seem intent on keeping their best weapon healthy. Although his availability for Week 1 against the Broncos is still in question, it would be shocking to see him suit up and get a workhorse role. He’ll likely be eased into his job as the season progresses. Expect Devontae Booker to get some additional looks early in the season.
