FanDuel Dollar Menu – Week 5 Value Picks
Alright, alright, you got me, none of these players actually cost a dollar. What they are is a list of players that provide excellent value for you each week in FanDuel contests. You know, the same way that the dollar menu at your favorite fast food restaurant provides you with a meal that may not be gourmet but it fills you up without breaking the bank. Again, this is not a list of the best players each week, this is a list of the players that offer the best bang for your buck.
With that being said, these are my FanDuel Week 5 value plays.
QB: Marcus Mariota ($6,800, TEN @ BUF)
Marcus Mariota is coming off of a huge Week 4 where he passed for 344 yards and two scores in addition to 46 yards rushing and another score for a grand total of 31+ FanDuel points. Those gaudy numbers came against the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles, so Mariota is likely licking his chops to face the struggling Bills defense. He probably will not have as many attempts this week but he should make them count.
Additional Value Pick: Joe Flacco ($7,200, BAL @ CLE) is taking full advantage of his new weapons this year and is averaging a touch under 20 FPPG. He will also be adding another weapon, as first round pick TE Hayden Hurst is likely to make his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns 24th ranked pass defense.
RB: T.J. Yeldon ($6,500, JAC @ KC)
T.J. Yeldon will be the lead back for Jacksonville this Sunday, and possibly longer, as Leonard Fournette has already been ruled out with a recurring hamstring injury. Yeldon posted solid numbers in Week 4 against a sturdy Jets defense to the tune of 21.5 FanDuel points. He should have ample opportunities to replicate that on the ground and through the air against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jaguars will either look to pound the ball to keep it away from Patrick Mahomes and the explosive Chiefs offense or they will have to air it out to try to keep pace with them. Either way, I expect Yeldon to be heavily involved and get 20+ touches.
RB: Matt Breida ($6,200, SF vs ARI)
Matt Breida is looking to rebound after a sub-par performance against the Chargers defense in Week 4. Lucky for him, he gets a Cardinals defense that just surrendered 100+ yards and 2 TDs to Seattle’s Mike Davis resulting in a 26+ FanDuel point outing. After out touching Alfred Morris 12-to-5 last week, things look promising for Breida to come back strong this week.
Additional Value Pick: Javorius Allen ($5,400 BAL @ CLE) has four touchdowns through the first four weeks. He now faces a Browns defense that gave up 130 yards to the formerly retired Marshawn Lynch.
WR: Calvin Ridley ($6,800, ATL @ PIT)
Todd Gurley and Alvin Kamara, I struggle to think of two other players that I would want to be on a list with when talking fantasy football. Calvin Ridley, the rookie WR from Atlanta, currently sits tied with the aforementioned RBs with a league leading 6 touchdowns. Week 5 brings a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has struggled to stop anyone, in what will likely be a shootout. I say ride the Ridley train until he gives you a reason to get off.
WR: Cooper Kupp ($6,700, LAR @ SEA)
Cooper Kupp went out last week and had himself an absolutely monstrous day. Kupp hauled in 9 of 11 targets for 162 yards and two trips to the end zone for 32+ FanDuel points. He has received 6+ targets in every game and has four TDs through the first four weeks of the season. Kupp and the hot Rams offense will visit a Seahawks defense that is without Earl Thomas. I look for Jared Goff to find Kupp early and often, resulting in a solid performance.
Additional Value Pick: Marquez Valdes-Scantling ($4,800, GB @ DET) appears to be in line for a larger target share this Sunday. Injuries to Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, and Geronimo Allison have kept them out of practice and could open the door for Valdes-Scantling to put up numbers with Aaron Rodgers looking his way.
TE: Vance McDonald ($4,600, PIT vs ATL)
Over the last two weeks Vance McDonald has looked like The Incredible Hulk every time he catches the ball. Everyone has now seen him stiff arm Chris Conte into oblivion in route to a 75 yard TD catch during Week 3. He was at it again in Week 4 while the entire Ravens secondary tried to bring him down. Super hero talk aside, McDonald has gotten five targets in every game and is averaging 10 FPPG. This game has all the ingredients for an absolute shootout against a Falcons team that has given up 80 combined points in the past two weeks.
Additional Value Pick: Jared Cook ($5,900, OAK @ LAC) is leading all TEs with 15.5 FPPG and has two games in which he scored over 22 FanDuel points. He is almost $2,000 less than the top TEs this week against a Chargers defense that has underperformed.
DEF: Titans ($3,900 @ BUF)
The Titans are averaging 9 FPPG and play a Bills team ranked near the bottom in every major offensive category. When in doubt, play the Bills opponent and at $3,900 the Titans are a bargain.
Additional Value Pick: Ravens ($4,200 @ CLE) The Ravens scored 17 FanDuel points the first game of the year against rookie signal caller, Josh Allen. This week they will get to see another rookie, Baker Mayfield, making his second career start. Mayfield had four turnovers a week ago against a Raiders defense that has struggled, making the Ravens a solid start this week.
