Quarterback
Mitchell Trubisky (CHI vs Lions, 16.6 F.P.P.G.)
Mitch Trubisky took somewhat of a step back last week against the Bills despite their decisive 41-9 victory. But as mentioned previously, Trubisky plays significantly better at Soldier Field. He’s thrown at least two touchdowns in all home games this year and Detroit is middle of the pack against QBs. I expect Trubisky to outperform his projections.
Verdict: Start as high-end QB2
Alex Smith (WAS at Buccaneers, 25.5 F.P.P.G.)
The Buccaneers are the worst fantasy defense against QBs this season and Alex Smith is coming off of his best game last week against the Falcons. With the injuries to the offensive line of the Redskins, Smith might have to stay mobile thus giving him a solid fantasy point floor.
Verdict: Viable streaming option. Start as mid-tier QB2.
Andrew Luck (IND vs Jaguars, 15.4 F.P.P.G.)
Andrew Luck this season has been phenomenal and his production is fantastic. Considered somewhat matchup proof, he faces a tough one with the Jags. Because of the volume and the Luck’s talent, it’s hard not to start him this week but with Jacksonville being the 6th best fantasy defense against QBs you get some doubts. Luck is simply just downgraded a bit this week.
Verdict: Start as high-end QB2.
Running Back
Tevin Coleman (ATL at Browns 25.3 F.P.P.G.)
The Browns are a bottom tier fantasy defense when it comes to stopping the run. Tevin Coleman had a monster game against the Redskins scoring two touchdowns through the air and with Cleveland being so generous to running backs this year, I like me some Coleman this week.
Verdict: Start with confidence.
Adrian Peterson (WAS at Buccaneers, 23.7 F.P.P.G.)
Although the Bucs defense doesn’t turn heads, I don’t like this matchup because of what happened to the offensive line for the Redskins. With two starters getting put on to IR this past week, I think the Redskins line will struggle, thus affecting AP’s production.
Verdict: Start as RB2.
Wide Receiver
Devin Funchess (CAR at Steelers, 26.6 F.P.P.G.)
You would think as the #1 target on a productive offense Devin Funchess would be producing better numbers, but that is not the case. The Steelers are nothing special against wide receivers in fantasy this year and Funchess’ floor for targets keep his fantasy value solid.
Verdict: Start as fringe WR2/WR3.
T.Y. Hilton (IND vs. Jaguars, 17.5 F.P.P.G.)
The Jags had a bye week to try and hit the reset button on the season, giving their defense a chance to recuperate. Despite their woes, they are still the best fantasy defense against wide receivers this year. This should make T.Y. Hilton owners a little bit wary.
Verdict: Start as fringe WR2/WR3.
Tight End
Jordan Reed (WAS at Buccaneers, 11.9 F.P.P.G.)
Jordan Reed has been pretty lackluster this season but he draws a good matchup this week against a Tampa Bay team giving up the 2nd most fantasy points to tight ends. This could be the breakout game Jordan Reed owners have been waiting for.
Verdict: Start with confidence.
Rob Gronkowski (NE at Titans, 3.4 F.P.P.G.)
I know it seems blasphemous to consider benching Gronk but he really has been disappointing this year, only scoring his single touchdown in Week 1. The Titans are the best fantasy team against tight ends this season and given Rob Gronkowski outings this season his ceiling isn’t what it used to be.
Verdict: Given the lack of depth in TE, start but limit expectations.
