The End Times are approaching fast my friend. Four weeks to stake your claim, to take what is yours. Hoping things will work out isn’t a successful strategy, not in fantasy football. If you are on the playoff bubble, it’s time to take risks and it’s time to weaponize your waiver wire priority.

Denial of service. Start sizing up the playoff contenders. Who has the matchups down the stretch to possibly give you heartburn? Is there a team you would rather see make it into the playoffs to be first round fodder? You do your best to block whatever move you can by taking players/defenses your targets are desperate for. The Dark Lord within reigns in this space, this is pure hater-aid and malice at its finest.

Remember, the steps to a fantasy football championship are usually built on the bones of your fallen foes. Much like with Conan, the meaning of fantasy life is to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, to hear the lamentations of their women. Zac Ertz owners cried out in terror due to injury at the end of last regular fantasy season when Trey Burton was denied to them by shrewd, great looking fantasy managers, right Trent? This was the equivalent of turning your waiver wire priority into Wolverine like Adamantium claws and burying them in the hopes and dreams of your prey.

In the end, you are after a title. If along the way you can stay one step ahead of the competition while at the same time demoralizing them you might be sizing up a Hall of Fame birth. Remember, half the fun of fantasy football is to strike desperation into the hearts of your buddies. They will remember that one year you took their only out leading up to the playoffs that cost them their spot. Oh, they will remember.

Fantasy Football Sleepers Week 10

Marquez Valdez-Scantling, WR, Green Bay Packers, 12% owned

Sometimes it turns out The Curse can help you. Geronimo Allison to the IR, Marquez Valdez-Scantling ($MVS) the new No. 2 wide receiver in Aaron Rodgers’ Candy Land. At this point MVS can’t be much of a sleeper but he is most likely still available in your league. It’s time to burn one friend, go after this potential end of season beast.

Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions, 9% owned

I spoke about Theo Riddick last week, and I’ll speak about him again. Sure, the Lions looked a mess in Week 9, however Riddick hauled in 7 receptions on 8 tosses. Don’t expect much when Detroit plays Chicago two more times this season but the rest of the schedule including Weeks 14 and 15 are looking viable for him to do his late season thing. This is an insurance policy against The Curse-type play; put him on your bench and if disaster strikes you’re ready to solider on.

Alfred Morris, RB, San Francisco 49ers, 15% owned

Haha. The Fantasy Gods must be laughing at Matthew Berry because Alfred Morris is fantasy relevant again. Raheem Mostert went down with a broken arm this past week and while Matt Brieda keeps playing – he must be banking his paid time off – he is clearly not 100%. I can’t see Brieda finishing the season without missing some time, which is why I liked Mostert a few weeks ago. It’s late in the season and this is a running back who will see some action, if in a 12+ team league this is a warm meal – take it.

Vernon Davis, TE, Washington Redskins, 4% owned

The Redskins got embarrassed last week against Atlanta but you know who shined? Father Time himself: Vernon Davis. If you are reading this then you know of the barren wasteland that the tight end position is. Washington is going to want to come back strong against the Bucs this week to make a statement, I reckon. I think this game script will favor Vern.

Atlanta Falcons Defense (vs. Cleveland Browns) 15% owned

If you are on the playoff bubble making bold plays at the defensive and kicking positions will gain you access to your chance for immortality. The Falcons stopped Washington’s run game down cold last week and look somewhat rejuvenated after their bye. Against the Browns I can see them far out-performing their 8.54-point estimate; 12+ is doable with the interceptions Baker Mayfield likes to throw. Atlanta isn’t a bad stream play this week for the win.

Crypto Corner (NOT financial advice)

1. Morgan Stanley’s research department this past week released a report saying that Bitcoin ($BTC) is a new institutional investment class. It is obvious Wall St. is angling to enter the cryptocurrency markets, this is crystal clear proof of it. Remember, there are only 21 million Bitcoin that will ever be made available.
2. At a recent Washington Fintech event, the Director of the SEC said guidance for ICOs are coming. The term, “plain English” was used. However, blockchain can be complicated and is moving at a very fast rate, so we’ll see what plain English means in six, 12 and 18 months. At any rate, clear guidance is very good for this sector as a whole and will only enable mass adoption.
3. A must listen to podcast from Anthony Pompliano. I’m clearly a Pomp and Off The Chain fan and I take serious your time commitment as a reader of my column. If you have an extra hour or so, I strongly recommend you listen to this podcast. Take notes on terms you don’t understand if you have to, it is really the ultimate argument for Bitcoin and you can learn a lot from this. If I can ask for your trust on anything, it’s this, serious.
