Now more than ever, your roster decisions are as important as they will ever be. Determining who to cut versus who to save can be tough and each decision should be thoughtfully carried out.
Before dropping anyone, make sure to put your team into perspective. Just because your player is listed in this cut column, it does not automatically mean you should drop him, especially if you are in a dynasty league.
You also need to weigh your waiver-wire options. If someone tells you to drop a player, it does not necessarily mean the move is right for your team.
For your team to improve, you have to be able to add a player that will make your team better, immediately or down the road, compared to the player to be cut. With this being one of the last weeks of the regular season, you certainly can become more liberal with your cuts, but still, make sure to think through them.
Here are some names you should consider dropping going into Week 15.
Aaron Rodgers (QB, GB)
While it may be a bold take, Aaron Rodgers could be the reason you lose your fantasy playoffs.
Just to be clear, dumping Rodgers is not a must and you should hold onto him if you have a Week 17 fantasy championship. At the very least, proceed with caution utilizing Rodgers for Weeks 15 and 16.
Rodgers’ schedule is tough for the next two weeks and he is facing stingy divisional opponents (CHI and MIN), but we can go much deeper into his statistics.
From a fantasy point of view, Rodgers has not had a QB1 performance against a good defense. What 2019 has shown us is that Rodgers’ boom-games come from weak defensive opponents. In addition, Rodgers’ only QB1 performances were against PHI, OAK, KC, DET and NYG – all but KC are bad fantasy defenses.
The former MVP has been inconsistent all year despite being the 7th ranked QB, can you really bet your fantasy playoffs on him? I am not taking that chance and neither should you so long as you can get a formidable substitute from the waiver-wire.
Rashaad Penny (RB, SEA)
What a trialing career it has been for Rashaad Penny. One thing you hate to see is when a player finally carves out a role, only to have an injury derail his hard work. Penny’s opportunity was getting better too, especially when you think about Chris Carson’s struggles which left the door open for Penny to get featured even more in the future.
Sadly, Penny was removed in Week 14 with an injury to his knee. After further examination on Monday, the Seahawks announced that Penny had torn his ACL and his 2019 season is over.
T.Y. Hilton (WR, IND)
Injuries have killed fantasy managers who drafted T.Y. Hilton. His current ailment is actually a setback from a previous soft-tissue injury. The Colts have no idea when they will get Hilton back and currently, he is week-to-week. The team (and even Hilton himself) has also flirted with the idea of shutting the wide receiver down for the remainder of the season.
Hilton is not a must drop, but don’t hold onto him if you find yourself in a roster crunch. If you add up his current injury news, it does not favor him returning in 2019. Remember, this was a setback injury and the Colts are practically eliminated from the playoffs. You can understand why Hilton probably won’t see the field in 2019.
Even if he does come back, soft-tissue injuries are really tough to trust in the player’s first game back, especially ones that have already been injured twice.
Brandin Cooks (WR, LAR)
Having Brandin Cooks on your team in 2019 has been horrid. Outside of a solid three-week stretch in weeks 2-4, Cooks has ruined most of your weeks if you started him.
Cooks has always been the sort of boom-or-bust player and that made it hard for us to notice this trend. He has also battled concussions earlier in the year as well, something he has a history of and why the Rams currently limit his snap count. Ranked as a WR60 heading into Week 15, Cooks is someone to move on from.
