Analyzing the NFL landscape to determine with streaming defenses are worth starting in Week 16, making them potential waiver wire pickups.
I’ll Leave You With This: It has been awesome writing for the fans of 5thdownfantasy.website over the past sixteen weeks. Hopefully I have won more games for you than I have lost. I admit, some weeks I dropped the ball (mainly because of my faith in Eli Manning), and some weeks I hit a home run (Weeks 14 and 15). But I wish you all the best of luck with your fantasy endeavors and am excited already for next year. For this last week, I am only writing about the streaming defense that will help out most teams. After reviewing the matchups, there really isn’t a bad matchup for many of the top teams.
Third Time’s a Charm: Tennessee Titans
Only owned in 50% of leagues (Yahoo and ESPN), the Tennessee Titans are by far the best streaming option for the championship week. Fortunately, if you have made it this far, you most likely only have to compete with one other person in grabbing this defense, unless you have people in your league who care about being third place. But those people need to listen to Ricky Bobby’s word of advice, “If you’re not first, you’re last.”
During the past two weeks, the Titans have been one of the top defenses in the league, mostly due to their great schedule. Facing the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants in Week 14 and 15 produced double-digit points for anyone who was smart enough to stream them (unless you read this article and came away with 20 points or more in those weeks). Expect their success to continue one more week.
With a playoff spot still very much possible, the Titans will use the momentum from last week to push past the Washington Redskins and keep their playoff hopes alive. Although the Redskins defense is very tough, the Titans have two big advantages over the Washington. For one, the Redskins have a third/forth string quarterback starting. He has done well over the past two games, but one was a blowout and the other was against an offense that had produced 110 total yards from scrimmage. Both scenarios made it easier for Josh Johnson to be successful fantasy-wise, but he will be in a much different situation this week.
That brings us to our next advantage. The Washington Redskins are still somehow in playoff contention and this game is a win or go home situation. So they don’t have the luxury of playing it safe, especially if the Titans start to pull away. For their fans, they must try anything they can to win which means turnovers, sacks, and defensive touchdowns. Johnson has done respectable, but against a good defense in a situation as high-pressured as this week’s game, he will surely make many mistakes.
Verdict: Over the past two weeks, the Titans have given up zero offensive points, produced three turnovers, and seven sacks. The Washington Redskins will not put up very many points, but expect this Titan’s offense to keep rolling. By the third quarter, they should be up by at least two scores which will force Washington to make more throws. The increased volume of passes will lead to more sacks, more turnovers, and at least one touchdown. Start this defense with complete confidence.
Prediction: PA: 7-13, Total Yards: 150-200, Sacks: 3, Fumbles: 0, Interceptions: 2, TD: 1, Fantasy Points: 10-15
