Waiver Wire Pickups, Week 4: These fantasy players are ones to consider adding if they’re available in your league.
Week 3 was another crazy one early into the 2019 NFL season. We saw several players put up huge games, Daniel Jones burst onto the fantasy scene while leading the Giants to a victory, and injuries to several players, most notably Saquon Barkley.
If you happened to be on the losing side of the injury bug this week or simply are looking to bolster your team, even more, there are definitely some strong waiver wire candidates entering Week 4.
I’ve identified several players who could be quality fantasy additions to your team after Week 3. They might be taking on a new role after an injury or just have continued to fly under the radar for three weeks.
As always we want to pay attention to injuries as more news comes. Most of the players listed below are the ones who are most likely available on your waiver wire in your league. Every player listed is owned in less than 50 percent of leagues (Yahoo and ESPN formats).
Week 4 Waiver Wire: Less than 50% ownership
Daniel Jones (QB, NYG)
Daniel Jones was impressive in his first start against the Buccaneers. He threw for 336 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 4 rushes for 28 yards and two more scores. He seemed to bring some life to the Giants offense and with Barkley most likely gone for several weeks there going to need it. There could be some struggles as the Giants face better defenses in the future but is worth an add.
Gardner Minshew (QB, JAC)
Gardner Minshew had another decent outing on Thursday and threw for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 18 yards on 4 attempts. He’s probably not going to set the world on fire and more likely to be a game manager type. He’s a decent add, but temper expectations as Jacksonville still will most likely look to run the ball.
Wayne Gallman (RB, NYG)
Saquon Barkley left the game Sunday with what is being reported as a high ankle sprain. This means Wayne Gallman is the next man up. He won’t be Barkley, but anytime you can grab a starting running back off of waivers you should go for it.
Rex Burkhead (RB, NE)
Rex Burkhead stepped in while James White was away from the team and filled in nicely with 11 rushes for 47 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 6 receptions (7 targets) for 22 yards. He’s a definite add whose value only increases if Sony Michel or White we’re to miss time again.
Darrel Williams (RB, KC)
Darrel Williams filled in for Damien Williams and managed 9 rushes for 62 yards. He was also active in the passing game with 5 receptions for 47 yards. He appeared to be next man up and out-touched Darwin Thompson 14-4 in backup duties. If LeSean McCoy (who left game with an ankle injury) or Damien Williams miss time, it looks like Williams is the next man up.
Raheem Mostert (RB, SF)
Raheem Mostert was on this list last week, but continues to appear to be active in the 49ers backfield. He managed 12 rushing attempts for 79 yards. He lost a fumble, which never makes the coaches happy. However I feel like Mostert is still worth an add.
D.J. Chark (WR, JAC)
D.J. Chark continues to look like Minshew’s favorite target. On Thursday he managed 4 receptions (5 targets) for 76 yards and a touchdown. He’s now had 19 targets, 15 receptions, 277 yards, and 3 touchdowns on the season. He’s worth an add in most formats, but could see some regression in the touchdown department should Jacksonville get it’s run game going.
Phillip Dorsett (WR, NE)
With Antonio Brown departing, Phillip Dorsett stepped back into a significant role. He managed 6 catches (7 targets) for 53 yards and a touchdown. He also had 2 rushing attempts for 12 yards. In the two weeks without Brown, Dorsett has a stat line of 10-148-2. Julian Edelman also left the game at halftime and Josh Gordon was checked out in the medical tent (though he returned) so if another wideout misses any more time, Dorsett’s value could take an even bigger jump.
Mecole Hardman (WR, KC)
Featured in this article last week, Mecole Hardman is still available in a lot of leagues. He connected with Patrick Mahomes again on a deep ball and ended the game with 2 receptions (5 targets) for 97 yards and a touchdown. Again, there may be some volatility with all the mouths to feed, but Hardman is worth an add as he can go off at anytime.
Will Dissly (TE, SEA)
Will Dissly continues to look like a quality tight end after managing 6 receptions (7 targets) for 62 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came near the end of the game and Seattle was down, but he has three now on the year. He also gets the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, who continue to get lit up by opposing tight ends (Greg Olsen 6-75-2, Mark Andrews 8-112-1, T.J. Hockensen 6-131-1).
