Waiver Wire Week 10: Daniel Jones should bounce back in a friendlier matchup with the Jets.
Week 9 is officially in the books and now we begin the push towards the playoffs with just about a month to go. Overall, Week 9 came with some more injuries that may impact your fantasy football team with the likes of Adam Thielen, Desean Jackson, and Jacoby Brissett suffering injuries or setbacks.
As we turn our attention to the waiver wire in Week 10 it isn’t the most spectacular, but there are still some good pickups to be made. Especially since we have six teams on bye in Week 10 (New England, Philadelphia, Denver, Houston, Jacksonville, Washington). Also, in many leagues, this might be the time where people have started to “lose hope” or not pay as much attention as they had early on so you may be able to pick up a couple of key pieces to make that playoff push.
As always, we want to continue to pay attention to injuries as more news comes out for some players. Most of the players listed below are the ones who are most likely available on your waiver wire in your league and I’ve found a few players at each position that may be available in your league. Every player listed is owned in less than 50 percent of leagues (Yahoo and ESPN formats) with a few who might have a little more ownership, but possibly available.
Week 10 Waiver Wire: Possibly owned, but worth a look
Jamaal Williams (RB, GB)
Jamaal Williams still remains under 75% owned on ESPN and Yahoo formats (62% on ESPN). He had another good game in Week 9 with 2 rushing attempts for 10 yards but added 6 receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown. Eight touches might not seem like a lot, but Green Bay struggled mightily in this one and Williams actually had the better fantasy day than Aaron Jones despite having 1 less touch.
Overall Green Bay continues to usually be a good offense, especially now with Davante Adams coming back. Williams continues to provide some flex upside in PPR formats as he continues to stay involved in the passing game and he is also getting work in the red zone.
Jaylen Samuels (RB, PIT)
Samuels got the start in Week 9 and didn’t do much at all on the ground with 8 rushes for 10 yards. However, Samuels appeared to be the safety blanket for Mason Rudolph as he pulled in 13 receptions for 73 receiving yards. He obviously brings more appeal in PPR formats, but he’s one worth rostering should Conner continue to miss time.
Week 10 Waiver Wire: Less than 50% ownership
Running Back Handcuffs (Tony Pollard, Alexander Mattison, etc…)
With the playoffs nearing, if you’re in line to make it already, this is a good time to pick up some strong running back handcuffs. You can look to handcuff your own running back, but also there is value in picking up other running back handcuffs as well. Should a guy like Dalvin Cook or Ezekiel Elliot you all of a sudden have a very strong running back if you grabbed Pollard or Mattison. You might be able to wait a few weeks, but with playoffs nearing, it never hurts to start looking ahead.
Ryan Tannehill (QB, TEN)
Ryan Tannehill continues to be productive for fantasy football. He passed for 331 yards and a passing touchdown but had 2 interceptions. What helped out his day was 38 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He also comes with a decent upcoming schedule with Kansas City, bye week, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Oakland, Houston.
Daniel Jones (QB, NYG)
Daniel Jones turned the ball over three times on Monday Night Football but threw for 210 yards and a touchdown. He also added 54 rushing yards. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but Jones gets a positive matchup against a Jets secondary that just allowed Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins to put up 288 passing yards and three touchdowns. He’s definitely startable in Week 10 but then gets a bye in Week 11.
Ronald Jones (RB, TB)
Ronald Jones had a decent fantasy day in week 9 as he rushed for 67 yards on 18 attempts while adding in 2 receptions for 15 yards. He was able to convert for a rushing touchdown as well. In Week 10 he gets a decent matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, but there is always the chance things swing back Peyton Barber’s way. He’s had 5 games with 10 plus rushing attempts, but also has had 4 games with 10 or less.
Zach Pascal (WR, IND)
Pascal grabbed 5 receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown in Week 9 and lead the Colts in targets and snaps. If Hilton continues to miss time Pascal may be in line for a good workload in Week 10 as the Colts face off against the Dolphins. However, things could be a little different with Hoyer starting at quarterback (Pascal’s touchdown came from Brissett). I think he is still worth adding.
Hunter Renfrow (WR, OAK)
Renfrow found the endzone again in Week 9 and managed 6 receptions on 54 receiving yards. He also led the team in targets and receptions for the week. He’s a potential streaming option with six teams on bye in Week 10, but it’s very possible Waller and Williams could knock Renfrow back down the totem pole if they get more targets than the 6 targets they combined for in Week 9.
Cole Beasley (WR, BUF)
Cole Beasley found the end zone again in Week 9 but managed only 2 receptions for 13 yards. Beasley isn’t going to blow the doors off or win you a matchup, but he presents a safe floor in PPR formats and is most likely good for 8-12 fantasy points. He gets the Browns in Week 10 and comes with some flex appeal if your a team hurting at wide receiver due to the bye weeks.
Alex Erickson (WR, CIN)
Alex Erickson could be a sneaky start after the Bengals bye, but this is contingent on A.J. Green. Should A.J. Green miss another week, you might be able to pick up Erickson and play him in your flex as he has 17 receptions for 276 yards over the last three weeks. Once again, he most likely goes back to the 4th wide receiver should Green come back, but he’s one to keep an eye on.
Mike Gesicki (TE, MIA)
Another Dolphin makes our list, which is never enjoyable, but tight end is a disaster for some. Gesicki had a big Week 9 with 6 receptions for 95 yards. It helped that the Dolphins were playing a beatable Jets defense and they could move the ball. They get the Colts in Week 10, which has allowed the 5th most points to the tight end position thus far.
Jacob Holister (TE, SEA)
Hollister managed 4 receptions for 37 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns in Week 9. He appears to be getting worked in more in the offense and also has at least 6 targets in two of the last 3 games since Dissly went down. Seattle is a good offense and Wilson continues to be very efficient, which brings some upside in a desolate fantasy position if Wilson continues to look Hollister’s way.
Playoff Streaming Defenses:
Another possible stash candidate from the waiver wire is always D/STs with good matchups when the fantasy playoffs occur. If you’re in the position, either headed towards playoffs or have the bench space, it’s always good to look ahead at possible defensive streamers.
Pittsburgh Steelers (under 60%)
The Steelers defense has been playing pretty good football. They get the Rams in Week 10, but then face off against the Browns, Bengals, Browns, Cardinals, Bills, and Jets to round out the season. This gives you a strong defense to start for the final six weeks of the fantasy season.
Baltimore Ravens (under 50%)
The Ravens get the Bengals in Week 10 but then face the Texans, Rams, and 49ers. This will most likely drop their ownership down. After that stretch of games, the Ravens get the Bills, Jets, and Browns in week 14-16 for what is the fantasy playoffs for many.
Philadelphia Eagles (under 70%)
The Eagles get a nice stretch from Weeks 13 – 15 as they face the Dolphins, Giants, and Redskins. Their ownership will most likely come down after a Week 10 bye and then facing the Patriots and Seahawks. You would need to pivot in Week 16 if that is your playoff championship, but the Eagles defense has been pretty good in plus matchups and is worth a look.
