This is it, the make or break week for fantasy managers. Week 14 is likely the last week of your fantasy regular season so the playoff push is coming to a close. If you are in a good spot and have already locked up your playoff position, congratulations, you are looking ahead toward that championship.
As for the managers who have yet to lock up their spot and this is a must-win week, there are plenty out there like you. You are not alone and we will get through this together. Heading into a stressful week of fantasy football, here are your Week 14 risers and fallers.
Week 14 Fantasy Football Risers
Justin Jefferson (WR, MIN)
Justin Jefferson has been on an amazing run as of late while he’s firmly positioned himself among the top receivers in fantasy football. Since Week 8, Justin Jefferson has been the top receiver in fantasy football. All of that has been when he is sharing the field with Adam Thielen.
In Week 13, Thielen suffered an unfortunate ankle injury that should sideline him for the next 3-5 weeks. During that time, Jefferson should have no real competition in the Vikings receiving game as he works in a similar role to Davante Adams as the sole heavy receiving threat in Minnesota.
Antonio Gibson (RB, WAS)
Finally, we are catching a glimpse of what drafters were hoping Gibson would be prior to the start of the 2021 season. Expectations had Gibson moving into more of a role in the passing game but the presence of J.D. McKissic has limited his role in that regard.
Now that McKissic has succumbed to a concussion recently, Gibson has completely taken the backfield for himself and it doesn’t look like he’ll be losing his role once McKissic returns. Gibson looks to be an RB1 for the time being unless McKissic regains his previous role once he returns from his concussion.
Tee Higgins (WR, CIN)
The second half of the season has seen Tee Higgins’ production completely flip from where it was earlier in the year. He was clearly taking a backseat to the new kid on the block in Ja’Marr Chase as people were very quick to forget about Higgins’ production during his rookie year.
Now, Chase has been falling off as far as fantasy production goes while Higgins has been taking off. He’s coming off of two straight 100+ yard performances along with touchdowns in back-to-back weeks. If this trend continues, Higgins could be a strong play heading into the fantasy playoffs.
Josh Jacobs (RB, LV)
Over the past couple of weeks, Josh Jacobs has been performing really well for fantasy rosters. He’s managed to put up just under 20 Half-PPR fantasy points in two straight weeks and the season-ending injury to Kenyan Drake should only improve his production further.
Drake suffered an ankle injury against Washington and that opened the doors for Josh Jacobs to become even more involved in the passing game. Jacobs managed to gather in 9 receptions and that receiving role could carry on for the rest of the season without Drake in the mix.
Week 14 Fantasy Football Fallers
Ezekiel Elliott (RB, DAL)
Ezekiel Elliott is coming off of a game where he probably shouldn’t have been playing in the first place. Against the Saints, Elliott ran for 45 yards on 13 attempts while also gathering in 2 receptions for 2 yards. He is clearly still hobbled by his knee injury and he is quickly losing his value as one of those elite fantasy running backs that you can just set and forget.
Tony Pollard is gaining a larger role in this offense and Zeke is looking more and more touchdown reliant as the season progresses. Pollard has been recently reported to be dealing with a slight injury so there is the possibility that Zeke has the backfield to himself on Sunday. We will see if he can be more productive than he has been recently.
Adam Thielen (WR, MIN)
As was mentioned above, Adam Thielen suffered an ankle injury early in the Vikings’ matchup against the Lions. The injury should keep him out for 3-5 weeks so there is the possibility that he is unusable for the rest of the season. This could not be worse timing for fantasy managers as the playoffs are coming up in a week for most and the trade deadline has probably passed.
Hopefully, you have a backup plan because losing a player with as much touchdown upside as Thielen can be a huge loss for a team looking at the playoffs.
James Robinson (RB, JAC)
What mess is going on in Jacksonville? Urban Meyer seems to have a personal beef with anybody that didn’t attend a Power 5 school because that’s how he is treating James Robinson. Robinson fumbled early and was subsequently benched until the game was out of reach.
The cluelessness of the Jaguars coaching staff being run by Urban Meyer is hurting Robinson’s stock heavily. Apparently, Trevor Lawrence had to give the coaching staff a wake-up call and ask them why James Robinson wasn’t in the game. Maybe that will give them a reason to play their star running back over Carlos Hyde in the coming weeks.
Lamar Jackson (QB, BAL)
Something is off in Baltimore. They’ve gone from a team that was tearing up defenses early in the season to a team that can’t get anything going at all. Has the league really figured out Lamar? Maybe, it’s certainly looking that way recently. The Ravens are relying on Lamar’s ability to scramble and make plays with his feet and that just isn’t an efficient way to run your offense.
He’s thrown interceptions in 4 straight weeks and isn’t looking like a reliable high-end quarterback as this Ravens offense sputters. There probably isn’t an option you can pivot to as Lamar required some heavy draft capital for a quarterback. Maybe he’ll improve but things are definitely trending in the wrong direction.
