As predicted, brilliant pick Denny Hamlin won the Toyota 500 last Wednesday. The No. 11 was in the right place at the right time as NASCAR called the race due to rain with 20 laps to go. Who will be lucky enough to take home the trophy at Charlotte on Sunday night? Read on to find out!
Here’s my NASCAR fantasy advice guiding you to the Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers drivers for this week’s cup series race: The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Brilliant – These NASCAR drivers have the best shot at winning in Charlotte
Martin Truex Jr.
Wins at Charlotte: 3
Top 5 finishes: 7
Top 10 finishes: 11
Truex hasn’t shown us his best yet — but that’s gonna change this week. Truex has rocked Charlotte for the last five years, and this is his week to punch his ticket to the Race for the Chase – as long as no one gets in his way.
Kevin Harvick
Wins at Charlotte: 3
Top 5 finishes: 8
Top 10 finishes: 17
It’s been awhile since Happy Harvick dominated the track at Charlotte, but I have a feeling that it’s gonna be a hot night in North Carolina for the No. 4 team. Look for Harvick to have a clean race and maybe even break some hearts on Sunday night.
Denny Hamlin
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 9
Top 10 finishes: 17
Denny was a brilliant pick last week and he turned out to be a brilliant pick. Though he’s never won at Charlotte, he’s been pretty darn close a number of times. Let’s see if he can win his way in without a rain out this weekend.
Bold – These are my NASCAR sleeper picks
Jimmie Johnson
Wins at Charlotte: 8
Top 5 finishes: 16
Top 10 finishes: 22
It’s tough to leave Jimmie Johnson’s name off the ballot when it comes to NASCAR sleeper picks at Charlotte. Though the height of his run of number-ones was in the mid-2000s, he has finished well here in the last few years. It’s quite possible that he’ll pull one out of thin air on Sunday night — as long as he races clean and stays cool.
Matt Kenseth
Wins at Charlotte: 2
Top 5 finishes: 12
Top 10 finishes: 20
Kenseth came back to the Cup Series with a vengeance at Darlington in the first race back on May 17th. Though the Wednesday race had a different outcome, I think that the newly-appointed driver of the 42 is going to have a better race at Charlotte. He has great numbers here, and he’s got a great car. There’s no reason why he can’t make a run for victory lane when it’s all said and done.
Kyle Busch
Wins at Charlotte:1
Top 5 finishes: 13
Top 10 finishes: 18
Why is Kyle Busch a bold pick and not a brilliant pick? Because we have no idea if Chase Elliot plans to retaliate against him in Charlotte for the mishap that occurred in Darlington last Wednesday night. Accident – or not – it’s up to the No. 9 to see if Rowdy will get his first win of the season on Sunday.
Bonkers – Stay away from these NASCAR drivers in your fantasy lineup this week
Aric Almirola
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 1
Aric Almirola never quite came back to form after his first dynamic season with Stweart-Hass two years ago. Whether or not he steps it up remains to be seen, but for now, I’d leave him out of your NASCAR Fantasy lineup for Charlotte.
Erik Jones
Wins at Charlotte: 0
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 1
Now is not the time for Jones to have a great run. Darlington was his big chance, but Charlotte has been painful for the No. 20. Unless stranger things happen, I don’t see Jones having his big moment on Sunday night.
Austin Dillon
Wins at Charlotte: 1
Top 5 finishes: 1
Top 10 finishes: 2
Yes, Dillon has a win at Charlotte. Yes, he could pull a rabbit out of his hat and get another one on Sunday. But I don’t think he will. With the amount of competition he’ll have, it’s best to forget about the No. 3 until the next race.
