And now, here are this week’s Brilliant, Bold, and Bonkers NASCAR Fantasy picks for the Federated Auto Parts 400 At Richmond Raceway
Brilliant
Kevin Harvick
- Wins: 3
- Top 5 finishes: 14
- Top 10 finishes: 23
The hapster has been hot. It hasn’t been a season like last year, but the No. 4 team has been quietly successful almost every week. Short track racing like this takes a special skill, and Harvick is certainly special. Look for the 4 to make his way to victory lane at the end of this one.
Denny Hamlin
- Wins: 3
- Top 5 finishes: 11
- Top 10 finishes: 15
Ask any driver and they’ll tell you that Denny Hamlin is one of the most underrated short track racers in the sport. Hamlin loves the hometown vibe, and he dominates here. His season may have cooled down a bit, but this is the place for him to start a fire and burn his way into the next round.
Kyle Busch
- Wins: 6
- Top 5 finishes: 17
- Top 10 finishes: 20
A few bits of bad luck have kept Kyle away from Victory lane in recent weeks. For a guy who was the 2019 regular-season champion, you can bet he feels like it’s getting old. If he can snap the cold streak, he’ll be able to dominate this weekend at a track that’s one of his very best.
Bold
Joey Logano
- Wins: 2
- Top 5 finishes: 8
- Top 10 finishes: 11
Logano has come out of the gate hot in recent weeks, but he seems to cool down by the checkered flag. The fact that he’s not in a hot spot keeps me from making him brilliant, but I think if he can hold himself together, he’s a solid bold pick for Richmond.
Kyle Larson
- Wins: 1
- Top 5 finishes: 2
- Top 10 finishes: 4
If there’s one driver that been hot since mid-summer, it’s Larson. He ended the regular season without a win, but that could change on Saturday night. If he can hold off the JGR team, he’s got the best shot of anyone at cementing his place in the round of 12.
Clint Bowyer
- Wins: 2
- Top 5 finishes: 4
- Top 10 finishes: 14
Bowyer was on a role before Vegas, but last week made a mess out of many hot drivers. Clint and Richmond Raceway go way back, and this is his best chance to get on top with stage points or a win. As long as he stays consistent, he’ll have a chance to relax until the next round of the playoffs.
Bonkers
Alex Bowman
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 0
- Top 10 finishes: 0
Bowman has had a good season, and he’s only getting better. He’s still getting his footing on the short tracks, however, and Richmond hasn’t been his best. Will he make it through to the next round? Maybe. But this isn’t the week to take him there.
Ryan Blaney
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 0
- Top 10 finishes: 0
It’s nice that things are looking up for the 12 team, but this is Blaney’s worst track. His last visit to Richmond gave him a 25th place finish, and he hasn’t done much better on average. This isn’t the week for him to advance into the future, but he’ll have a good shot at the playoffs next week when he gets to The Roval.
Erik Jones
- Wins: 0
- Top 5 finishes: 0
- Top 10 finishes: 1
Jones has a long, hard road ahead if he plans to get into the next round. Richmond hasn’t the best track for him, with an average finish of 14th. He wasn’t great here last time around, and I don’t expect it to be much better this time. Jones’ best shot will come at Dover in 2 weeks.
