Jeff Zrebiec with The Athletic is expecting J.K. Dobbins to have an increased role in 2021, saying that “Dobbins figures to be one of the focal points of an offense” and that the team “would like to get him more involved in the passing game.”
Fantasy Impact: Dobbins had an incredibly efficient rookie season, averaging a staggering 6.0 yards per carry. Although he totaled 805 rushing yards on the season, his lack of utilization early on paints a clear picture of why we could see an uptick in his Year 2 campaign. Dobbins was kept to less than 43% of his team’s snaps in each outing and never saw double-digit carries through the first six weeks. After the bye though, Dobbins saw an increase in opportunity and looked to be a budding star. Through his final nine games, Dobbins averaged 12.1 carries for 72.3 yards while scoring seven touchdowns. His lack of involvement in the passing game (0.8 receptions for 5.1 yards per game) was the biggest knock to his value. Dobbins still appears to be in a timeshare with Gus Edwards and Lamar Jackson, which can cap his ceiling. But increased involvement in the passing game could help him elevate his fantasy output. Dobbins is currently our RB18 in Expert Consensus Rankings. However, a few receptions per game coupled with his extreme rushing efficiency and the Ravens’ run-first offensive mindset could help him outperform that.
