Mike Evans won’t get extension before deadline

Mike Evans and the Buccaneers will not agree to terms on a contract extension before the deadline that he put in place on Saturday.

Tampa Bay is more or less going through a rebuild this year after Tom Brady’s retirement, so it makes sense that they don’t want to lock themselves into a multi-year extension for a receiver who’s already 30-years old. The Bucs’ reportedly don’t plan to trade him either, so Evans is set to play out the remainder of his contract and test free agency in 2024.
