According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, RB Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants failed to reach an agreement on a long-term deal before the deadline on July 17, setting up Barkley to play on the franchise tag.
Fantasy Impact: Whether or not Barkley will play on the tag is unclear as of right now, something Garafolo alluded to in his statement. Barkley tweeted “it is what it is” after the deadline passed after the two sides failed to meet in the middle after months of negotiations. The Giants reportedly were actively conversing with their veteran RB who had a 1,650-yard season in 2022, but nothing was finalized. Barkley finished last year as the fantasy half-PPR RB6.
