Fantasy Players to Drop in Week 4: Here are some names you should consider dropping from your fantasy team heading into the next slate of games.
Three weeks into the fantasy season and I am just like you: needing emotional support because I lost Saquon Barkley. Barkley’s injury won’t warrant a cut from your fantasy team, but surely there are new players you will try and add from the waiver wire heading into Week 4.
Before dropping anyone, make sure to put your team into perspective. Just because your player is listed on this cut column, it does not automatically mean you should drop him, especially if you are in a dynasty league.
You also need to weigh your waiver wire options. If someone tells you to drop a player, it does not necessarily mean the move is right for your team. For your team to improve, you have to be able to add a player that will make your team better, immediately or down the road, compared to the player to be cut. It is paramount to evaluate the players, and the transaction, prior to completing it.
Fantasy Players to Drop in Week 4
Corey Davis (WR, TEN)
At what point does the fantasy community move on? Corey Davis came into this league with tools that were impeccable and worthy of a 1st-round pick for the Titans. But reality says that Davis is earning the infamous bust label: both in terms of “real” football and fantasy football.
Davis is not 100-percent to blame though. His quarterback, Marcus Marriota, also looks like a draft mistake by the Titans and without a good quarterback, receivers can only do so much.
Best case scenario is that the Titans test other options at the QB position. Either way, Davis does not radiate confidence in fantasy terms and should be cut from all standard formats. PPR owners can safely drop him in 10-team formats and I would also encourage those in 12-team leagues to weigh their options on the waiver-wire.
Jimmy Graham (TE, GB)
Jimmy Graham of the old days has been gone for several years now, but his regression continues to send his fantasy stock into decline. If you are playing Graham in your tight end spot, this mention likely comes at no surprise because he has “goosed” you in consecutive weeks – in other words, he scored zero fantasy points, and not just once, but two consecutive weeks.
Sure, Graham caught one touchdown in Week 1 but just like most tight ends, they are going to be touchdown-dependent. With just two targets in Week 2 and one target in Week 3, Graham has fallen into a deep-league streamer at the tight end position. I would look to move on in 12-team formats and all standard leagues.
Geronimo Allison (WR, GB)
The second Green Bay pass catcher on the this week’s cut list is none other than Geronimo Allison. Allison was likely drafted onto your team in hopes that the second year receiver would breakout with new head coach, Matt LaFleur. What has happened through three weeks is the exact opposite of a breakout campaign.
Through Weeks 1-3, Allison has been targeted 0, 5 and 3 times, respectively. Digging a little deeper into the stats, Allison has only totaled 28 air yards, which is a fraction compared to Devante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling who both have over 200 air yards. And to top things off, Aaron Rodgers is no longer the fantasy quarterback that he once was, but that is another debate. Cut Allison in all standard leagues and any other league with 12-teams or less.
Duke Johnson (RB, HOU)
Man, we all thought that we found a quality pickup in the late rounds of fantasy drafts when we selected Duke Johnson. The newly acquired Texan walked into, what seemed to be, a golden opportunity when starter Lamar Miller was severely injured in a preseason game against the Cowboys.
What we did not see is the signing and emergence of Carlos Hyde. Hyde has become the clear favorite out of the backfield and manages goal line work, which started in Week 2 and carried into Week 3. The touches for Johnson seem to dwindle as the season carries on, finishing with 13 touches, 6 touches and 4 touches, respectively. Even with nearly a 50/50 split in snaps played for Week 3, Carlos Hyde was game-scripted out because the Texans were forced to pass the ball, something that should favor Duke Johnson. Despite this, Johnson still only registered 4 touches compared to Hyde’s 10. All standard teams rostering Johnson should move on. Even in my own 10-team PPR league, there are better options on the waiver wire that I am going to go after.
